Opinions and value judgments are our own, unless otherwise noted — Sheldon d. Additions and corrections are most welcome. Sachs also made multi-speed internal-gear hubs in 3-, 5-, 7- and speed versions. Their “3 x 7” hub was a hybrid system, a 3-speed internal hub that took a 7-sprocket cassette, providing 21 speeds with only one chainwheel. Sachs formerly also made kick-back hubs and a “2 x 6” hybrid hub, the “Orbit”. The one clear area of domination for Sachs was its chains, which were generally acknowledged to be the finest available.

We are working on solving systems of equations and started out by solving via graphing. This way they truly understand what they are finding when solving a system. Not necessarily a hard task but it is something they need practice on solving. Basically the desks were lined up with two desks per pod. I had 12 groups.
Have your calculator set on the correct mode.
One brick is one kilogram and half a brick heavy. What is the weight of one brick? This is an easy, yet cool math game for kids and adults. There is an easy equation which can help: Having reached the other train, the fly bounces off it and flies back to the first train. The fly repeats the trip until the trains collide and the bug is squashed. What distance has the fly traveled until its death? There is a complicated and an easy way to calculate this cool math puzzle.
Think outside the box. There is a complicated way counting a sequence. Which train will be further from New York when they meet? Kids might know the answer faster than the adults: The New York train will be closer to New York by approximately one train length because they’re coming from different directions. That is, unless you take “meet” to mean “perfectly overlap”.

Mathematics General 2 This exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions Section I worth one mark each, and five free-response questions Section II worth 15 marks each. Follow the time guidelines on the front of the paper. If you haven’t finished the multiple-choice questions in 35 minutes, come back to them after completing Section II. There are different opinions on whether to do the multiple-choice section first or last. If you are better at Section II-style questions then it’s better to do these first, but allow yourself adequate time to make a serious attempt at Section I.
Focus Studies questions make up about 30 per cent of the paper, so make sure you have a good understanding of them, including those in the Preliminary course.
Supergirl also went through a recent birthday that, logically, would have been her 18th, but her age was not mentioned and she seems to be kept in the same “late teens” range as Stargirl and Wonder Girl.
Mathematics maestro Terry Tao. Hugh Hamilton Yet this is a man with an intimidatingly rare and precious mind. Academics studied it with astonishment throughout his Adelaide childhood as he charged through IQ tests and International Mathematical Olympiads with unprecedented results. By the time he was 16, he’d finished his science degree. He got his masters when he was 17 and his PhD at Princeton University at Tao has pages of awards, fellowships, prizes and medals to his name – most notably, the Fields Medal, the maths world’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize, which he received in when he was 31 “for his contributions to partial differential equations, combinatorics, harmonic analysis and additive number theory”.
Around about then, people started to describe him as “the Mozart of math”. Advertisement Last year, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Russian tech tycoon Yuri Milner recognised Tao’s transformational contributions when they announced he was one of five recipients of their inaugural Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics. He thought the money should be dispersed between more people. So far, Tao has put some of his prize money towards a travel fellowship for graduate students in developing countries, and a student fellowship for gifted American high-school students.

There’s still debate over the answer however. Logic puzzle solver Professor Puzzler , a maths teacher named Doug, said that the problem was unsolvable, due to blue flower having different numbers of petals.

A place for sharing fresh ideas about teaching high school math. Monday, November 22, Speed Dating I promise this is really about math I got this idea from Kate Nowak over at f t and I had been wanting to use her idea for one of my test reviews this year. I did change it quite a bit but I am sure she will recognize it as her original idea. I have been trying to come up with a creative way to review for tests this year for each and every single test.
It has been a chore, but with a little help from my friends in the edublogging community, I have managed to pull it off. When students arrived in my class this morning, the desks were arranged in pairs so that the desks were facing each other.
In the early s, Ibis made a small run of retro-style fixed-gear bikes for street use, which they called the “Scorcher.
Sunday, September 11, Significant Figures Speed Dating Activity My physical science students are currently working on determining the correct number of significant figures to use in different situations. The first step is for them to be able to recognize how many significant figures there are in a number. I made posters to hang up in my classroom for them and me! I decided this was the perfect topic to make into a speed dating activity. You can find the files for my significant figures posters here.
To create cards for the speed dating activity, I typed up 20 numbers into a Publisher file. I tried to include numbers written in scientific notation and numbers written in standard form. Then, I designed the file to print the correct number of significant figures on the back of the card when printed double sided. Here are what the front of the cards looked like when I was finished.
And the backs of the cards: And, I hope there weren’t any mistakes on the cards because I was sort of in a rush to get them made. I thought I would have plenty of time to get them typed and printed before school started, but I didn’t account for kids coming in to get help on making up their quizzes! So, if you do see an error, let me know so I can fix it!
